Cherry picker traps man in freak accident

Just before 2.45pm on Tuesday, ambulance crews responded to reports of a crane falling off the back of a truck on Kissing Point Rd, Ermington near Olympic Park.The man, in his 40s, sustained head, leg and suspected spinal injuries when the cherry picker he was operating fell into bushes. The worker fell was trapped in the cherry picker cage for about 20 minutes.Two ambulances and a CareFlight rescue helicopter were dispatched to the scene.Upon arrival, paramedics treated the man for a head laceration, neck and back pain and a fractured lower leg.He was extricated from the basket with assistance from FRNSW before being transported to Westmead Hospital in a stable condition.“As you can imagine it was a pretty chaotic scene as we had a crane down and a patient difficult to access,” NSW Ambulance Inspector Matthew Ormsby said “FRNSW officers and paramedics worked together to get him out of the tricky situation; it was a great team effort from all emergency services.“This had the potential to be an absolute disaster, a very lucky man.”
